Se tomaron muestras de forma aleatoria de sangre de un total de 117 gatos domésticos en diferentes distritos de la ciudad, sin importar raza, edad o estado de salud. El diagnóstico que fue establecido por las pruebas inmunocromatográficas "Anigen Rapid FIV Ab/FeLV Ag Test Kit", que detectan anticuerpos contra FIV gp40 y VLeF antigen p27. Los factores que ocasionan los riesgos se identificaron con un instrumento que son las entrevistas a los propietarios con información relevante a las características de los animales evaluados, los gatos muestreados, como el número de animales en cada hogar, los gatos con exposición a pulgas, dónde dormían, de dónde venía el gato, edad, sexo, estado reproductivo, estado físico y estado de salud. La seropositividad para FLeF, FIV y ambos retrovirus fue del 62.39% , machos 67.24% hembras 57.62, en cachorros 23.63 % y en adultos 75.80% en gatos domésticos atendidos en la Clínica Los Reyes, respectivamente.
