Abstract
This study evaluated the impact of various plant growth regulators on the agronomic and reproductive performance of Kabocha squash, focusing on floral synchronization, yield, and fruit quality. Nine hormonal treatments (including Ethrel4, Kempro, BiozymeTF, Activol40SG, and RootHor) were assessed and compared with an untreated control. Statistical analyses revealed significant differences in most of the evaluated variables. Ethrel4 and Kempro promoted earlier and more synchronized flowering (smaller gap between male and female flowering), resulting in a higher number of mature fruits at the beginning of harvest and increased yields (16065.00 and 15920.63 kg/ha, respectively). Activol40SG also performed well in terms of total fruit production. Regarding fruit quality, measured by soluble solids content (°Brix), RootHor and Ethrel4 achieved the highest values (11.00 and 10.90 °Brix), while Kempro, despite its productivity, showed the lowest value (7.90 °Brix), possibly due to sugar dilution caused by high fruit load. The study found Ethrel4 to be the most balanced treatment in terms of both yield and quality, while Kempro excelled in productivity. The application of plant growth regulators proved to be an effective agronomic strategy to enhance key aspects of Kabocha squash cultivation, adaptable according to specific production goals.
