Abstract

The study aimed to determine the relationship between nomophobia and phubbing in nursing students at a public university in Ica during 2025, as well as to identify the levels of both variables and analyze the relationship between the dimensions of nomophobia and phubbing. The methodology was basic, with a quantitative approach, correlational level, and non-experimental cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 175 students selected by simple random probability sampling. The Nomophobia Questionnaire (NMP-Q) and the Phubbing Scale were used as instruments, both with adequate levels of validity and reliability. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS v26, using descriptive statistics and Spearman's Rho coefficient, with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that 60.0% had a moderate level of nomophobia, 32.0% had a mild level, and 8.0% had a severe level. In terms of phubbing, 71.4% showed a medium level, 27.4% a low level, and 1.1% a high level. A moderate and significant positive correlation was found between nomophobia and phubbing (ρ = 0.485; p = 0.000). Likewise, all dimensions of nomophobia were significantly related to phubbing, with “loss of connection” standing out (ρ = 0.502). It is concluded that there is a positive and significant relationship between nomophobia and phubbing, showing that the greater the dependence on the mobile phone, the greater the tendency to neglect face-to-face interactions.
