VoIP service is experiencing accelerated growth, driven by the available bandwidth and the quality of service it offers to users. The objective of this research is to improve the quality of voice communication at the National University "San Luis Gonzaga" using VoIP Telephony. The TCP / IP model and open-source software platforms are used, which facilitate the integration of the VoIP service into an existing computer network or a new network design. In addition, the VoIP service provides features, advantages and disadvantages that can contribute to optimizing communication within the entity. On the other hand, the design of a new computer network for VoIP or the use of the existing telecommunications infrastructure allows determining the most appropriate method to follow, the most accessible type of network and the TCP / IP version that offers better performance. The operation and main characteristics that a telephone exchange can offer at the university, which requires VoIP telephony services at a reduced cost, are analyzed, highlighting the importance of the hardware and software used. In this case, the Raspberry Pi, a small and powerful low-cost computer that works with Linux-based operating systems, is used. As for the software, we use Asterisk, specifically dedicated to telephony, in addition to being a free and easily accessible resource. It is concluded that the VoIP service represents a valuable resource to promote effective communication at the University, both now and in the future. It is evident that there will be continuous growth and it will need to have the most advanced technological resources to offer a quality and updated service
