Abstract
----- The objective of the present study is to identify the potential contaminants contained in the gold mineral processing tailings of the Sol de Oro mine. The research is quantitative, descriptive level and non-experimental in design. The accumulated tailings of the Sol de Oro mine are located 12 km from the city of Nasca-Ica, a few meters from the Interoceanic Highway crossing. This environmental liability is estimated at one million tons, stacked on the surface, occupying an approximate area of 175,000 m2 and reaching approximately one million tons. Systematic sampling was done, with a population of 49 pools in which these tailings are distributed and as shown in the composite of 44 pools sampled according to statistical calculations for sample size, and were analyzed using ICP-OES techniques and the results contrasted with the LMP of Peruvian legislation; considering radicals such as cyanide and elements such as As, Cd, Cu, Fe, Pb, Zn, and Hg. The results report a total cyanide concentration of 1.3 ppm and Arsenic 230 ppm, Cadmium 0.74 ppm, Copper 570 ppm, Lead 150 ppm, Zinc 220 ppm and Mercury 0.3 ppm. Which in conclusion qualify as potential environmental contaminants, which represent a serious risk to the environment and living beings.
