----- The Peruvian sea flora is a rich source for national and international research. As part of these innovative studies, our objective was to test the healing activity of the ethanolic extract of the seaweed Macrocystis pyrifera (L) (sargassum). Two kg of Macrocystis pyrifera (L) (sargassum) were collected. The dried material was macerated for 7 days in 96° ethanol, filtered after this time and the frame was refluxed for 4 hours. The filtrates were dried by vacuum distillation in a Buchi brand R 100 rotary evaporator, qualitative tests were performed to identify secondary metabolites. The experimental design to test the wound-healing activity was performed on Mus musculus albino mice (Strain: Balb/c/CNPB), randomly divided into 5 groups. The wounds were 1 cm incisions at scapular height with suture; the treatments had topical administration every 8 hr. during 2 days. Following the ethical criteria for research in experimental animals, the animals were euthanized (anesthetic overdose with pentobarbital); minutes after death, the stress test (dynamometer) was applied to each mouse; the result is obtained in numerical values greater than 0 from the water expenditure (mL) in burette. The following metabolites were identified in the extract: amino acids, triterpenes and/or steroids, catechins and flavonoids. The 10% extract obtained better results with a percentage of healing efficacy of 155.15% (p<0.05 with respect to the negative control), with respect to the concentrations of 30% and 60% that reached 96.90% and 17.52% respectively. The healing activity can be attributed to amino acids (histidine, lysine, phenylalanine and valine), triterpenes, catechins and flavonoids. | |
