| dc.description.abstract | The objective, of this research was to "evaluate the significant relationship between solid waste management and environmental impact at the San José de los Molinos municipal landfill, Ica, 2025". The methodological strategy involved an applied, descriptive-correlational, non-experimental, cross-sectional study. Surveys were administered to 95 residents living near the landfill, using a four-category Likert scale. The data were processed using descriptive statistics and analyzed using the Chi-square test, with a significance level of 5%. Results, the study found that the frequency, coverage, and operational conditions of waste management have a direct influence on the environmental and health impact. The overall Chi-square value (χ² = 120.241) exceeded the theoretical value (χ² = 47.400), confirming a significant relationship between waste management and environmental impact. Furthermore, a relationship was found between operational phases and pollution (χ² = 36.438 > χ² = 16.919), between treatment/recovery and environmental impact (χ² = 18.859 > χ² = 12.592), and between waste management and human health (χ² = 36.448 > χ² = 21.026). Discussion of the result, the findings are consistent with international scientific evidence that maintains that open dumps, with limited technology and management deficiencies, generate air, soil, and water pollution, emissions of gases such as methane, proliferation of disease vectors, and an increase in respiratory, gastrointestinal, and skin diseases. They also confirm the findings of international organizations and Peruvian regulations regarding municipal responsibility to guarantee integrated waste management to prevent environmental and health risks. Conclusion, it is statistically confirmed that inadequate solid waste management is significantly related to environmental impact and the effects on human health in San José de los Molinos. Deficiencies in the collection, transportation, treatment, and final disposal phases intensify environmental degradation and health risks. The results demonstrate the urgent need to strengthen municipal management, improve infrastructure and technologies, rigorously comply with environmental regulations, and prioritize interventions that protect public health and the environment. | |
